The practical AI job-search field manual

Your job search is a pipeline. Treat it like one.

Most searches don't fail from lack of effort. They fail because positioning, resumes, discovery, applications and interview prep are five disconnected activities. This is a working manual that turns them into one repeatable five-stage system — with AI doing the research, structuring and rehearsal.

Reference

Sixteen worksheets like this one. The AI cannot invent your history — these are the raw material everything else is built from.

Inside · Prompt 0.1 · Session primer
ROLE: You are my career strategist for this entire
session. You are direct, specific, and sceptical.
You do not flatter.

STANDING RULES for every response in this session:
1. Never invent an achievement, metric, employer,
date or skill that is not in my file.
2. Flag anything I have written that is vague,
   unverifiable or a cliche.
3. Prefer plain, concrete language.

Every prompt follows the same five-block structure: role, context, task, constraints, output format.

Inside · Stage 1 gate checklist
  • Career Context File written and saved as CCF.txt
  • Positioning statement survives the sceptic's stress test
  • Proof Inventory complete — fifteen rows minimum
  • Target company list built

Seven checklists act as gates. If you cannot tick every box, you are not ready for the next stage.

The problem

Most job searches break long before the interview.

If your search is opening another job board, sending another application and hoping something happens, the problem may not be effort. It may be the system. Applying became almost free, so everybody applies to everything — which means the scarce thing is no longer effort. It is relevance you can prove.

An unclear target

"Open to different things" feels flexible. Against 300 applicants per posting, it gives every downstream decision nothing to work from.

Generic positioning

Being qualified is the entry ticket, not the differentiator. Without proof, claims read as self-description and get discounted to zero.

A resume rewritten forever

Rewriting materials before deciding the target means the document points in three directions and lands nowhere.

Random discovery

If more than 80% of your applications are cold board applications, you are competing only where competition is highest.

Volume over tailoring

Near-identical mass applications produce exactly the sameness recruiters have learned to filter out.

Interview prep at the last minute

Six weeks on the resume, six minutes on the stories. Interview skill is the one asset you cannot cram three days out.

No measurable pipeline

Without tracked conversion ratios there is no way to tell which stage is broken, so every stall feels like bad luck.

Burnout from the binge

Eleven hours on a Sunday, then nothing for nine days. Median time to a first offer passed a hundred days in early 2026 — plan a campaign.

The mechanism

Meet the 5-stage career AI pipeline.

Each stage converts a specific input into a specific output. Run them in order and each stage makes the next one cheaper. Skip one and the failure shows up two stages later, usually disguised as bad luck.

01

Position

Decide exactly who you are for, what you are worth and which thirty companies you are aiming at — before you write a line of a resume.

Output: Target Role Profile · Positioning Statement · Proof Inventory · Target Company List

02

Package

Turn your evidence into materials two readers can use: a search that has to find you, and a tired human who has to understand you in thirty seconds.

Output: Master resume · ATS-safe base resume · Rewritten profile · Story bank · One public proof asset

03

Discover

Find openings through targeted search strings, hiring signals and human paths — including the ones that never make it to a job board.

Output: Live pipeline tracker · Saved searches and alerts · Ghost-job filter · 20 warm contacts approached

04

Apply

A twenty-minute tailoring loop with a match score and a quality gate, so effort goes to the applications that can actually convert.

Output: 20-minute tailoring loop · Quality gate · Follow-up cadence · Tracked application history

05

Perform

Research, predict, rehearse and debrief — twelve stories said out loud every week, whether or not an interview is booked.

Output: Company dossier · Twelve-story bank · Mock-interview reps · Negotiation script · 30-60-90 plan

Two ratios, five stages, one rule: fix the earliest broken stage first. The book's diagnosis table maps every symptom — no replies, no recruiter contact, finals lost — back to the stage that actually caused it.

What you get

Everything you need to run the system.

45

Copy-paste AI prompts

Not a prompt dump. Each one sits at a specific point in the pipeline and feeds the next, from the session primer to the negotiation brief.

Career asset audit · target role mapping · job-description deconstruction · positioning statement generator · the sceptic's stress test · achievement bullet engine · ATS parse simulation · LinkedIn headline and About · story bank builder · de-AI-ify voice pass · search string architect · hiring signal scan · ghost job filter · warm path mapper · referral ask · match scoring · resume tailoring · pre-send red team · rejection autopsy · company dossier · question prediction · mock interview · negotiation preparation · 30-60-90 plan

16

Worksheets

You don't read this book, you fill it in. The worksheets are where your own evidence gets collected, structured and reused.

Career Context File · Target Role Profile · Proof Inventory · Target Company List · Resume Structure Map · LinkedIn Field Audit · Story Bank Tracker · Pipeline Tracker · The 20 Warm Contacts · Weekly Discovery Rhythm · Application Record · The Quality Gate · Weekly Application Scorecard · Interview Preparation Sheet · Story Rehearsal Log · Offer Comparison

7

Checklists

Gates between stages, not to-do lists. If you cannot tick every box, you are not ready to move on — which is what stops the stage-order failures that stall most searches.

5

Worked examples

One per stage: a positioning case, bullets before and after, a warm path in, one application tailored end to end, and a story rebuilt. Calibration, so you can judge your own output against something concrete.

30

Day sprint plan

The implementation path if you want a plan to follow rather than a book to reference: day-by-day, with a "done when" test for every day. Plus the weekly operating rhythm you run afterwards — roughly seven hours a week, weekends genuinely off.

The structure

This isn't a book you "finish."

Read the introduction once. After that it is a manual you work through with a document open beside you. Every stage chapter has the same five-part shape, so you always know where you are.

Prompts

Copy-paste blocks for any capable assistant. Replace every [PLACEHOLDER] before you send.

Worksheets

Tables you fill in yourself. The AI cannot invent your history.

Examples

What "good" looks like, so you can calibrate your own output.

Checklist

A gate. Every box ticked, or you are not ready for the next stage.

Outputs

The named files you hold at the end. If the file does not exist, the stage is not done.

The shift

A pile of applications, or a process you can diagnose.

Without a system

  • A broad job target, kept deliberately vague
  • One generic resume, endlessly rewritten
  • Applications sent wherever a posting appears
  • Little or no networking
  • Interview prep in the last 48 hours
  • No numbers, so no diagnosis when results stall

With the system

  • A defined target role, level and company band
  • Evidence-backed positioning that survives a sceptic
  • A reusable master resume, tailored per application
  • A target company list and warm outreach paths
  • A twelve-story bank, rehearsed weekly
  • A weekly review that names the stage to fix

The right-hand column describes the process the book gives you and the artefacts you build. Hiring outcomes depend on market conditions, timing, your field and a great deal of luck that no system controls.

What you will build

By the end you are holding files, not notes.

Fit

Built for job seekers who want a system — not more advice.

This is for you if

  • You are actively searching, or changing careers
  • You are applying and getting little response
  • You struggle to explain your value in one sentence
  • Your resume gets rewritten for every application
  • You are unsure which roles to target
  • You want to use AI without sounding AI-generated
  • You want a structured interview-preparation routine
  • You are willing to fill in worksheets

This is not for you if

  • You want someone to guarantee a job
  • You want an auto-apply tool that fires off hundreds of applications
  • You want AI to invent experience you do not have
  • You want real-time AI help during an interview
  • You want a motivational book rather than a working manual

Guardrails

AI is the assistant. You are still the candidate.

The book uses AI as a research analyst, an editor, a sparring partner and a coach — never as a mask. One sentence holds the whole line: use AI to present the truth about yourself as well as it can possibly be presented, never to present something that is not true.

Legitimate
Not legitimate
AI researches a company and drafts your dossier
AI invents a fact about that company you then assert
AI rewrites your real achievement more clearly
AI writes an achievement you did not have
AI predicts questions and grades your practice answers
AI feeds you answers during the actual interview
AI drafts outreach you then personalise and verify
AI sends 200 identical messages with a name merged in
AI helps you structure an honest answer about a gap
AI helps you construct a misleading account of it

Use AI to become better prepared — not less authentic.

The 30-day sprint

Don't just read it. Run it.

Four weeks, day by day, each day with a test for whether it is actually done. The thirty days are about installing the system, not about landing a job in a month.

Week 1

Position

Context file, asset audit, eight scored target titles, a positioning statement that survives the sceptic, proof inventory, company list.

Week 2

Package

Master resume assembled, base resume that parses clean, profile rewritten, story bank started, proof asset begun.

Week 3

Discover & first applications

Tracker built, six searches live, twenty warm contacts listed, ten messages sent, first five tailored applications out.

Week 4

Volume, rehearsal, iteration

The full weekly rhythm, a mock interview out loud, questions predicted, proof asset published, one stage adjusted.

At the end of thirty days you should hold a defined target, a master resume, an ATS-safe base resume, a rewritten profile, twelve stories, a published proof asset, a live tracker, twenty contacts approached, roughly twenty tailored applications out and one mock interview behind you. Not a finished job search — a working machine.

Questions

Before you buy.

Does it only work with one specific AI assistant?+

No. The pipeline is deliberately tool-agnostic. Any capable AI assistant will run every prompt in the book, and the appendix on tooling lists categories before products precisely because product names and features drift.

Do I need expensive tools or subscriptions?+

No. The book states plainly that you can run the entire system with one AI assistant, a spreadsheet and a professional network profile. Every paid tool it mentions is a convenience, not a requirement — and nothing in it is affiliated or endorsed.

Is this an ATS-hacking guide?+

No, and it argues against that framing. Applicant tracking systems mostly rank and retrieve rather than auto-reject, so the work is being findable in a recruiter's search and readable to a tired human in thirty seconds. No keyword stuffing, no hidden white text, no formatting tricks.

Does it guarantee a job?+

No. The book is explicit: it is not a guarantee of employment, and it is not legal, financial, immigration or career-counselling advice for your situation. Hiring outcomes depend on market conditions, timing, your field and a great deal of luck that no system controls. What it gives you is a process and a way to diagnose where that process is breaking.

I'm changing careers. Will this help?+

Yes — Stages 1 and 2 are built for exactly that problem. Position finds the latent assets you have undersold and names a credible target; Package converts them into evidence, because the burden of proof has shifted from "have you held this title" to "can you show you can do the work."

Can I use it if I'm new to AI tools?+

Yes. Stage Zero sets up your workbench in about thirty minutes and every prompt is copy-paste, with a short explanation of why each block exists. The only requirement is a willingness to work through the worksheets rather than only read.

Does it teach AI interview cheating?+

No. The Guardrails chapter draws that line deliberately: no invented experience, no live AI assistant during interviews, no identity misrepresentation, no hidden keywords. AI is used to prepare and rehearse, which is the part that compounds.

How much time does it take?+

Roughly six focused hours to get through Stages 1 and 2, which are front-loaded on purpose because that work compounds across every application afterwards. The ongoing rhythm is about seven hours a week, with weekends genuinely off. There is also a one-weekend minimum path if that is all you have.

What exactly do I receive, and how?+

A 66-page PDF, the 2026 edition, containing all 45 prompts, 16 worksheets, 7 checklists, 5 worked examples, the 30-day sprint and the appendices — including a blank worksheet pack and a sourced reading list. After successful payment you are taken to a download page with the file.

Your next application doesn't need more hope.
It needs a better system.
